BUYING SAFELY

Buying Safely on Wake Bid

Wake Bid helps you find and compare real listings, but you are responsible for verifying any ski before you buy it. Here's how to protect yourself.

How Buying Works

1

Find a Ski

Browse listings or use Find My Ski to find the right watercraft for you.

2

Review the Listing

Review condition, title information, photos, known flaws, and certification information where applicable.

3

Contact the Seller

Ask questions and arrange an inspection or test ride where appropriate.

4

Complete the Transaction

Buyer and seller finalize payment, title transfer, and pickup.

Check Title & Registration

Ask the seller for the title or registration. Confirm it matches the ski and that there are no liens unless clearly disclosed.

Verify Seller Identity

Make sure you know who you are buying from. Wake Bid reviews seller identity on Certified listings, but you should still confirm directly.

Confirm the HIN

Locate the Hull Identification Number on the ski and make sure it matches the title or registration documents.

Inspect the Ski

If you can, inspect the watercraft in person. Look at the hull, engine compartment, pump, and overall condition.

Cold-Start Test

Ask the seller to cold-start the ski. Listen for unusual noises and watch for warning lights during startup.

Review Service History

Ask for maintenance records. Supercharged skis should have documented supercharger service intervals.

Review Known Issues

Read the known flaws and disclosures carefully. Every Wake Bid listing encourages sellers to be transparent.

Payment Safety

Never wire funds to a seller you have not verified. Use a traceable payment method and confirm the ski exists before sending money.

Use a Bill of Sale

Complete a written bill of sale that includes the sale price, HIN, seller information, and date. Keep a copy for your records.

AVOID WIRE-TRANSFER SCAMS

Never wire money to a seller you have not met or verified. Scammers often push for wire transfers, gift cards, or crypto because they cannot be reversed. Use a traceable payment method and confirm the ski exists in person before sending any funds.

What Wake Bid Does and Does Not Guarantee

Regular listings are seller-provided and are not physically inspected by Wake Bid. Wake Bid Certified listings receive the specific in-person checks documented in their certification report. Wake Bid Certified means Wake Bid independently documented the specific checks shown in the certification report. Certification is not a warranty or guarantee against current or future mechanical problems unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Wake Bid is not a party to any transaction. You are responsible for independently verifying title, HIN, condition, and ownership before completing a purchase.
